My Story
My name is Scott Hennenfent, and my roots in agriculture run deep. Growing up on our family farm, I was actively involved in raising livestock and working with row crops. At 17, between my junior and senior years of high school, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed basic training. After returning, I finished high school while continuing both my military service and college education. In 2006, I deployed to Iraq for a year, gaining valuable leadership and problem-solving skills that I carry with me today.
In 2013, I began working at SGS Laboratory in Toulon, IL, specializing in soil analysis and agricultural testing. Following the closure of the Toulon location in the spring of 2020, I transitioned to GMS Laboratory in Cropsey, IL. After four years, the owners of GMS Laboratory retired, leading to the business’s closure.
Determined to continue serving the agriculture industry, I founded Optimum Soil Solutions.
One of the key advantages of Optimum Soil Solutions is our flexibility and independence. Unlike businesses tied to a single laboratory, I can work with any soil testing lab a client prefers or has previously used. If a grower works with a fertilizer dealership, I can send soil samples to the same laboratory the dealership uses, ensuring consistency in testing results over time.
Once the GPS mapping and analysis are complete, all data is seamlessly transferred to the grower’s fertilizer dealership, allowing for accurate and efficient variable rate applications. My goal is to provide unbiased, high-quality soil testing and mapping services, ensuring that farmers and agribusinesses have the best data to make informed decisions.
